Super Natural Every Day by Heidi Swanson

This is the first cook book that I am going to review.  Who says book cover marketing doesn't work?  I know I bought this book because the cover recipe (which I have personally made a couple of times) looked absolutely delicious.  Super Natural Every Day: Well-loved Recipes from My Natural Foods Kitchen by Heidi Swanson is chocked full of delicious-looking recipes that I plan to try out and verify that they are indeed delicious.

So far, I've only made one of the recipes and we really liked it.  This was before I formally decided to do this blog so I will be making it again (because I think I used the wrong beans).  Anyway, I just wanted to post what I was working on.

My family is very excited about this project because it means I will actually be cooking some deserts-something I don't normally do.  My family told me to “Bring it on!”

I’m up to the challenge—it’s so on!

GOAL: Minimum of three recipes a week.

What this blog is about

Have you ever bought a cook book and let it set on the self, while you keep on making those time-tested family favorites?  I have.  I do this because—one, it’s simple and two, I’m efficient at it (I know most of the ingredients by heart AND I don’t use measurements usually – wait, this may still fall under number one).  My goal is to try cookbooks out and cook every single recipe in them and give it an overall rating, as well as an individual recipe rating.  The criterion for such a rating is still to be determined, but so far I *think* it will be based on the following: Price of ingredients, availability/difficulty of ingredient, prep/cook time, taste, and a family vote.  I am not an expert—just an average mom, with an average amount of cooking experience who wants to provide healthy, wholesome meals for my family.  I’m blogging about it because…. Certainly not because I have loads of time on my hands—I work full time and I have a family to take care of on top of that (not so unusual).  The real reason is I’m more likely to complete it if I know that I obligated myself to write about it and I’ve always wanted to use every single recipe in a cookbook.  In reviewing the cookbooks, I will not be giving the actual recipes in the book but I may share some of my own personal recipes or offer tips about substitutes I’ve used.   Lastly, I’m doing this because it just sounds like something fun to do.

I will start doing this in a couple of weeks so, wish me luck!
